Berrie Pops to Prevent Cognitive Decline

5

Did you know, adding apples, oranges and strawberries to your daily diet can help prevent cognitive decline?

A recent study published in Neurology, a medical journal from the American Academy of Neurology, found that adults who consume at least a half a serving of foods high in flavonoids each day, such as apples, oranges, peppers and strawberries, have a 20% decreased risk of cognitive deterioration. Fruits and vegetables, along with some spices rich in flavonoids, are also associated with a 38% lower risk of cognitive deterioration. According to Walter Willett, MD, DrPH, of Harvard University, flavonoids are powerhouses in preventing cognitive deterioration. His study shows that people who ate the most flavonoids (appx. 600 mgs) per day reported 20% lower cognitive deterioration than those who consumed only 150 mg per day. A flavonoid-rich diet can also protect your body against cancer and heart disease.

Here is a list of foods rich in flavonoids that you can include in your diet for optimal health.

white tea
green tea
purple and red grapes
blueberries
cocoa and chocolate products
parsley
celery
chamomile
